MARIETTA, Ga. - Collar Up has released the Collar, an elastic band that goes around the waist and over a condom for a perfect fit, helping prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
Company President Anthony Mayfield, inventor of the Collar, said proper use and cleaning will allow the Collar to last longer than a case of contraceptives.
Mayfield said he came up with the idea for the Collar after years of less-than-satisfactory performance from condoms.
Mayfield said he plans to use the Collar to raise money in support of AIDS research and decreasing the numbers of STD infections and unwanted pregnancies. To do so, he has developed a marketing plan and contest based on viral videos about the Collar.
"Given that we live in a technical and video world, the contest asks contestants to create a simple viral video about the Collar and upload it to as many social networking sites as possible," Mayfield said. "Once a video is approved by us, it will be assigned a number."
Mayfield said contestants will earn a percentage of sales from their videos as long as revenue comes in, and they can create as many videos as they like. The videos can be dramatic, sexy, comical, musical, poetic or reflective, or take any approaches the creators think will be effective, he said.
A percentage of profits from all video sales will go to an AIDS organization.
"It's no doubt sex is a good thing," Mayfield said. "It should be enjoyed without fear of disease or pregnancy. Who you do, when you do [and] what you do should always be done safely."
