Swedish Pharmacy to Start Selling Sex Toys

SWEDEN - Citing demand from customers, Sweden's state-run pharmacy chain Apoteket has announced that it will begin selling sex toys in May.

In a survey conducted in 2007, a majority of participants named dildos and massage oils among products they would most like to see on Apoteket's shelves.

"We are aware that sex is a very important part of everyone's life," Apoteket spokeswoman Elisabet Linge Bergman said in a published report. "It is important to help people in this area, and there is a certain demand for the products"

The Swedish Association for Sexuality Education has produced a range of sex toys on Apoteket's behalf, but the pharmaceutical company has not decided which products it would carry.

"We want to have a broad perspective on health, and people would prefer to buy these items in Apoteket than online or in some other shop," Bergman said. "We are seen as good trademarks that can guarantee quality."
