Sexpo Survey Tracks South Africa's Sex Traits

MIDRAND, Gauteng—A recent survey of South Africans as part of the annual Sexpo event shows that many enjoy watching porn, most believe marriage is sacred, and plenty would like to participate in an amateur strip contest.

The survey—conducted in conjunction with the Sexpo event, which is set for Oct. 1-4 at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Gauteng—was taken by almost 3,000 people, mostly between the ages of 25 and 40. Forty-five percent of the respondents were women.

Among the results, according to an article published on iAfrica.com, 42 percent of women claimed to have sex more than once a week, and 14 percent said it was at least three times a week. Among men, 39 percent are having sex at least once a week, and only 8 percent said they get it three times a week.

When it comes to marriage, 94 percent believe the institution is sacred, although 52 percent of married participants admitted to being unfaithful.

Thirty-one percent admitted to wanting to participate in amateur strip competitions (42 percent female).

Other statistics from the survey show:

Going commando (sans undies) is preferred by 73 percent of participants, at least on an occasional basis.

Pornography is enjoyed by 87 percent of South Africans with the largest number of men and women consuming naughty videos residing in Cape Town (43 percent) followed by Gauteng and then KwaZulu-Natal.

The number of women owning sex toys increased from 29 percent in 2008 to 56 percent this year.

Seventy-one percent of respondents have had sex in a public place.

Eighty-five percent who participated in the survey said they would watch pornography with their partners while 4 percent said they never would. The rest were undecided.
