MILFORD, Conn. - Local police arrested six men last week at the Romantix adult bookstore in Milford.
Four of the men allegedly groped undercover detectives. Two were charged with public indecency for exposing themselves.
The arrests took place Feb. 20 and 21, following complaints to police about illegal sexual activity in the store's viewing booths. The suspects were released on a written promise to appear March 10 in Milford Superior Court.
In a similar bust ten years ago, police arrested several suspects at the same location - including a Catholic priest. A man arrested for robbing the same store in 2004 testified during his trial that he routinely engaged in sexual activity in the viewing booths.
The paper reported that an ordinance requiring adult businesses to be licensed could allow city officials to close a business that is considered a "public nuisance". Officials are unsure if the law applies to the Romantix case.
Romantix is a co-plaintiff with Keepers Gentlemen's Club in a pending federal lawsuit over another proposed zoning plan for adult businesses. The city ordinance calls for a 6-foot buffer between dancers and customers, and cracks down on peep booths.
Lawyers for the adult businesses claim the zoning rules are unconstitutional. The ordinance has not taken effect, pending the outcome of the lawsuit.
