LOS ANGELES—Sunny Megatron—a Chicago-based sex educator, an “expert sexpert” for California Exotic Novelties and host of “Outside the Box” segments on X3Sixty.com’s web series Inside Adult—will take on a new title beginning Thursday, when she hosts SEX With Sunny Megatron on Showtime.
The show, billed as a “fresh take on a very old subject,” airs at 11 p.m. EST Thursday, Oct. 30.
The show, co-executive produced by Jay Blumenfield and Tony Marsh of The Jay & Tony Show and AVN Media Network founder Paul Fishbein of Plausible Films (his current co-venture with former AVN CEO Darren Roberts), aims to take viewers on journeys into the underworld of sex, breaking down myths, exploring taboos, and delving into dimensions of sexuality that are rarely featured on TV. Megatron’s husband, sex educator Ken Melvoin-Berg, serves as a consulting producer.
“It’s both voyeuristic and educational,” Megatron told AVN. “It’s very much based on my teaching style. When people are just talked to, it’s quite boring. But if you make it fun, show them new things, engage them, make them a part of the learning, then it’s fun for them. People like things that visual and interesting and sparkly and hey, maybe there are boobs!
“It’s kind of a guerilla style that fits my personality,” she continued. “I like to refer to myself as an edutainer and that’s how this show is set up.”
SEX With Sunny Megatron, which features eight episodes this season, will allow viewers to be a fly on the wall, so to speak, as they witness couples taking a personal journey to explore various aspects of sex and sexuality. Each 30-minute themed episode consists of multiple segments, with Sunny leading couples or individuals on a sexual journey that helps them achieve a specific goal.
“We will talk about things that many couples don’t talk about, but probably should,” Megatron said.
Fishbein echoed that sentiment, and noted will appeal to a wide audience since some episodes feature couples taking a journey, and individuals in others.
“I think this will be good for the adult industry, too, because the show is really sex positive,” he said. “Even if the segment deals with sex that seems really out there, it’s all presented in a normal way.
“Nobody has ever done anything like this on television before,” he continued.
Megatron said some of the segment topics—clown sex, making a sex tape, transgender sex—might seem unusual, but viewers will see real couples and individuals revealing their personal stories and most intimate fantasies.
“Guess what? It’s your neighbors, your friends, parents, co-workers who are into all types of sex and adult play,” she said. “That normalizes it so you can see that it’s not that unusual.
“I’m hoping that when people watch the show, it will give them the courage and the opportunity to look at their partner and say, ‘Hey I have this fantasy I want to explore,’ and they can take their own journey together,” she added.
