Relationship Expert Marni Kinrys: Single Men Want Love, Not Just Sex

LOS ANGELES—Relationship expert and Marni Kinrys said, based on her clientele, single men in this day and age aren’t just after one thing. In fact, she says, the gender roles in dating have flipped, and women now make the sexual rules.

“Nearly 75 percent of my male clients seek my help with the goal of a quality relationship rather than a hookup, which is surprising,” Kinrys said. “When I started this as a career, men were more concerned with getting laid. Now it seems that there is a shift toward commitment.”

It’s a far cry from the long-held belief that men are only interested in “one thing” while holding up a stop sign at commitment while women quietly suffer until they “land” their men. In another generation, sure, says Kinrys, whose Wing Girl pickup method has helped thousands of men meet women over the past decade. Now, she noted, women are enjoying their freedom in the new Millennium.

“Women finally own their sexual power, and they are driving the current ‘hookup culture’ that brings satisfaction without guilt, but at the expense of intimacy,” she said. “More women than ever before value education and career and won’t risk their future at the expense of a long-term, monogamous relationship that could potentially hold them back.”

So are men the new women? Not exactly, said Kinrys.

“One hypothesis for men’s growing interest in commitment is women’s growing indifference to men,” she explained. “Men want what they can’t have, and the pursuit is half the fun.

“This is a trend, and social and sexual trends change as we change. Another trend is around the corner.”
