HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—A new musical on the adult entertainment industry, based on real-life stories of the people who work in the industry, is currently being developed by two theater groups.
New York’s experimental group The Civilians and Los Angeles’ Center Theatre Group are seeking people willing to be interviewed for the still-untitled show. There is no opening date for the musical. The piece, being written by Bess Wohl with music by Michael Friedman, is being developed under CTG’s New Play Production Program.
“The creative team will go behind the scenes and learn about the human side of this business, looking at the work and lives of directors, performers, producers, crew—everyone with a story to tell,” reads a blog entry for The Civilians.
In addition to the blog, members of The Civilians, including artistic director Steve Cosson (who recently appeared at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in This Beautiful City), are posting on Twitter (@stevecosson and @pornmusical).
The Civilians is an investigative theater company that creates original theater from real life.
CTG is considered a premier theater institution in Los Angeles. Most recently, CTG adapted the movie 9 to 5 into a Broadway-style musical.
