CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Adult novelty manufacturer Pipedream Products told AVN Novelty Business its line of Superstar Love Dolls is blowing up-in terms of sales.
Sales Manager Donny Sands said a recent article on Radar magazine's website started the spike in sales.
"Since the article has hit the Web, the hits on our website have been out of control," he said. "We've never seen anything like this. The phones are nonstop over here."
Sales Executive Alicia Ferro told ANB that Radar Online's post has prompted sites such as DListed.com and Defamer.com to follow suit.
"I think this is incredibly funny," she said. "I just finished giving a presentation that included this line of dolls, and as soon as I got back in the office, there was the article.
"People just love these dolls. I've seen whole Superstar Doll sections in stores. I even heard them talking about them on KISS [102.7 FM] this morning. Sarah Jessica Porkher is going to create quite a stir!"
The Sarah Jessica Porkher love doll resembles Sarah Jessica Parker, star of HBO's television show "Sex in The City," and is intended as an homage to the show, according to Nick Orlandino, Pipedream's chief operating officer.
"I liked that show a lot, actually," he said. "I'm hoping the Sarah Jessica doll will be popular. We're releasing it around the same time the movie comes out."
Orlandino said he came up with the idea for the Superstar Love Doll line and took it to his creative team, keeping a careful watch over the dolls' execution, from the box text to the photographs for the packaging.
"For J-Ho, I wrote the text in one day and made her the next day," he told Radar. "We introduce new dolls every couple of years after I find a model that looks like a certain celebrity. We've sold over 100,000 of them. Sales for all of them have been consistent with each other. There isn't one that sells better than the others or worse."
Orlandino said he is keeping an eye out for more celebrities to model dolls after.
"I'd really like to get Britney Spears," he added. "I'd also like to do Madonna. There are a lot of burlesque shows here in L.A. that dress their girls up like her. I think that'd be fun."
