FLENSBURG, Germany - The operator of Europe's largest chain of sex shops says peepshows are turning obsolete in the continent and plans of garnering a female audience are in consideration.
"There is no future in the booths," said CEO of Beate Uhse AG Otto Christian Lindemann during a Frankfurt conference yesterday. Lindemann noted oils, lingerie, sex toys and other adult novelties are taking over the magazines and films that were generally directed towards women. As a result, women are venturing to mail-order operations, he said.
Lindemann said by remodeling peepshow outlets to resemble department stores, it may serve as one way to draw females in. He said Beate Uhse dropped 85 percent since its initial public offerings in 1999 and has closed more than 20 shops in 2008. He added that as many as 35 additional outlets may be close-up shop by the end of the year.
"Profitable outlets that don't fit into either concept will become no-name shops," Lindemann closed.
