Peekay Melts into the Mainstream

AUBURN, Wash. - Novelty and lingerie retailer Peekay Inc. is hosting seasonal fashion parties highlighting the company’s hottest items.

Since their first retail store opening in 1981, Peekay has expanded to 13 stores in California under the names "A Touch of Romance" and "Condom Revolution", in addition to 21 "Lovers" stores in Washington.

Peekay Inc. hosted two September shows showcasing their fall fashions, in Tukwila and Kirkland, Washington, at selected "Lovers" stores. Peekay, which aims to "provide an exciting environment to explore human sexuality and to acknowledge the freedom to do so," presented 40 costume varieties at the shows, including new shoes and boots.

"We plan on doing it somewhat differently for October in our California market ‘A Touch of Romance' stores," explained Peekay marketing coordinator Sylvia TeGantvoort.

The September shows featured company representatives with Shirley of Hollywood, Dreamgirl, Forplay, Seven ‘Til Midnight, Pleaser Shoes, Leg Avenue, Ed Hardy Intimates and Ed Hardy Swimwear, and Giant Trading Company for Wicked Wigs. Vendors included Dreamgirl, Forplay, Pleaser Shoes (at the Tukwila store), Shirley of Hollywood, Seven ‘Til Midnight, and Leg Avenue (at the Tukwila store).

Peekay operates over 30 retail outlets and a wholesale business. "In addition, we offer ladies nights or couples nights, which are exclusive after hours events held in all of our different divisions," TeGantvoort explained of Peekay. "These are free events to the community, with the main focus on education. We have in-store workshops and seminars on various specific topics and offer discounts, giveaways, gift with purchases, raffles, and refreshments. We have guests taking notes at these classes and bringing friends or preregistering for the next one! We find that guests really open up in a group classroom setting and talk freely at these events."
