PROFILE: Ball and Chain

AUBURN, Wash. -  Ball and Chain was founded in 2003. With 15 years of experience in the adult retail business under her belt, Dawn Goodman owner still runs a one-woman operation, but she has a little help from her daughter, mother, or best friend Louise.

"When I need help, my 25-year-old daughter, mom or best friend Louise  helps me out," she says. "I have a home-based business that is so very rewarding. I'm able to relax in the comfort of my home ... where I can be the most creative. What's better than that?"

Goodman specializes in romance and party games, and has a small line of edibles in her inventory. She owns a three bay garages and has a warehouse space close to her home.

"I have a website (BallAndChainFun.com)  mainly for my customers to see all the product information, what's new and how to play the games," she says. "My customers are the backbone of the internet sales and do all the advertising and selling on their websites."

Goodman says her biggest challenge has been devising products that stand out from the pack, so she constantly strives to come up with unique ideas and packaging.  A product that will be so popular it will stay around for year to come.

"I have learned that if you come out with a product that everyone likes, all the rest is pretty simple," she explains. "I have been very blessed, and I just love what I do now. I worked in the adult retail business for 15 years, so I am not a stranger to the adult industry. I have met several manufacturers and distributors before I became one myself, which definitely helped out. Everyone was very willing to help out the new girl in town."

During her time in adult retail, Goodman jotted her ideas down, knowing she eventually would see their fruition.

"Creating something from scratch and watching it come to life and become a successful product is the most rewarding part of my work," she says. "In 2005, Victoria's Secret approached me. They were very interested in my original I.O.U game, which is my most popular game  They wanted my product in their own packaging. It was very exciting."

Goodman says having her own company  has made it possible to send her daughter to nursing school and see her graduate.

Ball and Chain recently added a slate of new games to its roster.

"I have added several new party games to my line, including Hot Willy, which is like a hot-potato game; Bachelor-Play and Bridal-Play party dare dice;  Bachelorette I.O.U dare game; Lip Lock, a very yummy-tasting oral-sex gel; Sex & Strawberries; Sex & Chocolate; and my newest game, Secrete Romance, will be available by the end of April," Goodman says.

Other popular games include Ball & Chain's third of a series of  I.O.U games, Fetish I.O.U,  The Bedroom Game and Get Nasty, as well as Goodman's favorites, the Mystery Sex Heart  and Foreplay Connect.
