SAN FRANCISCO - After 30 years as a high-end fetish and BDSM gear and garments manufacturer with its own retail stores, Mr. S Leather Co. has decided to make its products available to retailers worldwide.
"Mr. S has always been a wholesaler - sometimes more active and sometimes less, depending on where our focus has been needed," General Manager Jonathan Schroder told AVN Novelty Business. "I have wanted to expand our wholesale availability for some time, and have been working over the past two years to put the framework into place to make that more viable."
The company now offers complimentary goods from other manufacturers with which it has developed distribution relationships.
"I had hoped for a Jan. 1 launch date, but it was more important that the foundation be solid," said Schroder. "That point just happens to be now. It has been expensive, but we are excited by the lines we carry and have faith in their market appeal."
To make ordering easy for customers, the company has launched a complete wholesale catalog online at Wholesale.Mr-S-Leather.com.
The catalog includes leather and latex items manufactured in Mr. S's San Francisco workshop, along with the company's companion line for women, Madame S.
Also available are such popular items as SteelVineyards' Tri-Hinged Metal Cockrings and select products from Tantus and Elbow Grease.
"We strive to provide the very best gear, both in what we make and what we purchase," Schroder said. "Working with manufacturers that provide high-quality products that are fun to use is at the top of our list."
Most of the items in the Mr. S. catalog are hand made in the U.S.A.
"It's an additional source of pride in offering what we do, and quality control is much more efficient," Schroder said.
All of the wholesale items are stocked in Mr. S's warehouse, which means order delivery will be rapid.
"Our business model is not based on drop-shipping, and we have been stocking our warehouse to prepare for orders," Schroder said. "Fortunately when we purchased our new building three years ago, it provided enough space for all of our operations - even the owner's dungeon. We have had to relocate where some functions were taking place, but everything is held in one location right in the center of San Francisco."
The expansion in space and scope called for an expansion in staff, as well, he added.
"We employ many skilled workers right here in San Francisco," he said. "We use the finest materials we can find in making our clothing and bondage gear, and we assemble our goods right here in same building which is open to our [retail] customers every day. We test our gear extensively and refine our products until customers can be assured that they're getting the very best. We produce unique designs that are exclusive to us, and we are very proud to offer them to other companies now through our revised wholesale program."
