'Lovers' Store Opens in Spokane, Wash.

AUBURN, Wash. - PeeKay Inc. has opened its newest Lovers store at 3411 N. Division St. in Spokane, the company's first store in eastern Washington.

According to co-founder Phyllis Heppenstall, the Lovers stores provide positive shopping venues offering products designed to enhance the romance and sensuality in customers' lives. She told AVN Novelty Business that more changes and store openings are in the works this year.

"We have two Kirkland, Wash., stores now and will open a new larger store in Kirkland in November," she said. "One of our Kirkland stores will consolidate into the new store, and the second one will consolidate into the new store in early January. Our Bellingham, Wash., store will relocate to a new larger location in November, as well."

Heppenstall said two new stores will pop up in Southern California by late November, featuring the lingerie, gifts, novelties, toys, condoms, lubes and DVDs sold in all of PeeKay's retail stores.

In addition to its 33 Lovers stores, PeeKay owns the A Touch of Romance and Condom Revolution retail chains, which are based in Southern California.

"All of our stores cater to women and couples who have an interest in romance," Heppenstall said. "A Touch of Romance draws in younger customers, while Condom Revolution stores are smaller and appeal to a edgier crowd."

Heppenstall, who opened her first retail store in 1981 with her daughter Kris Butt, credits her 300-plus employees for the success of the business.

"We are committed to our employees and customer base to continue the amazing growth that we see possible in this industry," she said.
