ATLANTA - Erotic furnishings manufacturer Liberator Bedroom Adventure Gear has added a new dimension to its website and hopes soon to add a new alternative record label to the music industry.
Liberator Music, which exited a two-month beta test March 2, currently offers erotic auditory stimulation for consumers while providing a sort of "virtual soundstage" for aspiring and professional musicians.
"Music has always played a part in romance, so we realized that Liberator music would be the perfect addition to our lovestyle offerings," said Liberator Director and Chief Executive Officer Louis Friedman. "Our new music venue offers exposure to millions of romantically charged Liberator fans and is a wonderful opportunity for talented up-and-comers to be heard."
Liberator actively seeks submissions from musicians across the spectrum: rock, rhythm-and-blues, jazz, folk, classical ... basically any original work that "embodies the essence of eroticism" and reflects passion and modern sensuality.
"The ‘essence of eroticism' is an element or a feeling of seduction," Liberator Marketing Manager Dawn Hill told AVN Novelty Business. "All genres of music can seduce, albeit in very different ways."
Both Friedman and Hill are quite open about the company's ultimate goal with the new venue.
"The goal of Liberator Music is to eventually become a recording label," Hill told ANB. "We are starting up as a free forum for undiscovered talent, but we plan to use our resources as a creative incubator to develop an erotic record label.
"Our visionary CEO, Louis Friedman, has a deep appreciation for the arts, including music," Hill continued. "Music has always been an important part of his family life and his love life. Music and sex together is a natural coupling."
Hill said the company is certain artists can expand their fan bases by participating in the Liberator Music program.
"Our business-to-consumer site, Liberator.com, receives about 20,000 unique visitors each day during a busy month like February," she told ANB. "For a recording artist, giving them exposure to that kind of traffic is like filling 200 Carnegie halls in February alone."
Each month, one artist's work will be featured in the "Music" section of Liberator.com. If provided, video content will be posted in Liberator's "Backstage." In addition, CDs of the artist's work will be offered in the Liberator Music store.
Hill said about 100 submissions poured into the Liberator offices during the beta period. The first featured artist to arise from the pack was composer-performer Mark Bonder.
The level of excitement about Liberator Music is palpable among Liberator employees who serve on the project's Featured Artist committee, Hill noted. All of them have a background in music or a passion for the art form.
"Our in-house creative department is an idea lab with an eclectic collection of talent," she told ANB. "We have musicians, video producers, writers and circus performers, as well as sexual extremists and activists. It's a great team to select artists that reflect Liberator lovestyle.
"The main thing the judges think about is, does this put me in the mood? Would l like to make love to this song? We like a sultry beat and titillating raw, gritty lyrics."
Artists may submit original compositions via postal mail to Liberator Music, 2745 Bankers Industrial Drive, Atlanta, GA 30360. All submissions should include a non-returnable CD containing the piece or pieces, video if available and a biographical sketch of the artist.
