LOS ANGELES—As AVN reported earlier, the city of Los Angeles is searching for the perfect design to wrap around the free condoms the Department of Public Health gives to various organizations to distribute at bars, bathhouses and other places frequented by sexually active Angelenos.
The contest, titled "L.A.'s Next Sex Symbol," is intended to promote safer sex and discourage the spread of HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted diseases—a good idea since most city residents and visitors, unlike adult performers, usually haven't been tested for STDs, and their chance of contracting one from a casual pickup is many times greater than actors on a porn set.
Out of over 300 entries received, the 49 finalists have been published on the contest's web page, and though the winner will be announced tomorrow, June 26, there's still time for those interested to go to the contest website and vote for their favorites, on a sliding scale from 1 to 5 stars. The designer of the top vote getter will win a television and $750 in gift cards, and the nine runners-up will receive $200 in gift cards.
But there's what may be an even better prize for the top 10 designers selected: Their designs will appear on tens of thousands of the million condoms to be distributed all over L.A. County during the coming year, and that's a hell of an achievement for anyone's résumé!
And since adult performers may be forced to use these things in the not-too-distant future, why not vote for a design you like?
