Las Vegas Strip Casinos Want In On the Sex Toy Trade

LAS VEGAS, NV—A small item in the Laughlin Nevada Times could have big fallout for adult retailers in the Las Vegas area if casinos on the Strip are able to successfully amend a county code so that they will be able to sell adult novelties—aka sex toys—in hotel gift shops.

According to the paper, “The Clark County Zoning Commission, at its Oct. 2 meeting, asked staff members to prepare an ordinance amending the language of Chapter 30.08 of the county code to allow some resort hotel gift shops to devote a percentage of their retail space to selling novelty sex toys and aids.”

The proposed ordinance has already gone through at least one revision. “Subsequent to receiving feedback from the county’s various town advisory boards and citizen advisory committees,” the paper explained, “the proposed language was narrowed to include only those resort hotels located on Las Vegas Boulevard South between Sahara Avenue and St. Rose Parkway.”

Caesars Entertainment lawyer Tabitha Fiddyment said the move to amend the code is an effort to meet the needs of the city’s visitors. “The Las Vegas Strip has become the go-to destination for Bachelor and Bachelorette party celebrations (e.g. the movie Hangover)” she wrote in a letter to the county. “Instead of sending its guests to the Adult Overlay area of Las Vegas, Caesars would like to be able to sell a limited amount of these items on site.”

The Clark County Zoning Commission will review the final proposed ordinance after it is drafted.
