SAN FRANCISCO—Hoping to better educate the kink-curious about BDSM practiced in the Fifty Shades of Grey books and movie, San Francisco's Kink University is launching a four-day symposium, "50 Skills of Grey," next week, following the movie's release.
The live classes, available as a package or individually, will teach a diverse list of skills, from basic bondage to designing one's own "red room of pain."
"For all Fifty Shades of Grey lacks in BDSM authenticity and consent, it makes up for in its numerous 'teachable moments' that will let sex educators help kink-curious people, with workshops like the 50SkillsofGrey.com symposium," said Danarama, head of Kink University.
The hands-on symposium begins with an evening class on Thursday, Feb. 19, a one-hour Introduction to BDSM and concludes on Sunday, Feb. 22, with a workshop in Adventure Scenes and Abduction Play. Other workshop cover elevator sex, contracts, dirty talk and coming out kinky on dates.
“I am honored to be presenting alongside my heroes, mentors, and teachers, such as Danarama, Eve Minax, and Jiz Lee,” said Mona Wales, who will be presenting three seminars during the symposium. “I am also so thrilled to be co-presenting with Siouxsie Q of The Whorecast; her podcast has taught me the vital role of sex education in sex work.”
Held over four days, with 14 workshops and videos, Kink University presents the most comprehensive crash course with its “50 Skills of Grey” symposium. Attendees have the option of purchasingfull symposium, day, and individual workshop passes; attendees also have the option of participating in the Play Like Grey dungeon party at Kink Armory on Saturday night, Feb. 21.
