Jimmyjane Releases Pleasure Sets as Official Partner of Sony’s ‘Hysteria’

SAN FRANCISCO—Jimmyjane, the design centric brand with a sexy twist, has partnered with Sony Pictures Classics offering Hysteria Collection Pleasure Sets, timed to the distributor's release of the new film Hysteria.

Starring Academy Award nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hugh Dancy, Tony Award winner Jonathan Pryce, Rupert Everett and Felicity Jones, Hysteria is a romantic comedy wrapped around the surprising story of the first electro-mechanical vibrator, invented by happenstance at a time when the very peak of prudishness coincided with the dawn of the electrical age.

The world's first electro-mechanical vibrator was invented in the 1800s by Dr. Mortimer Granville. It was created in the name of medical science to treat “hysteria,” a common female diagnoses at the time with innumerable symptoms, including nervousness (or boldness), loss of appetite (or overeating) and a general “tendency to cause trouble.” The cure was a “paroxysm,” (what is now understood to be an orgasm) and—until Dr. Granville’s invention—had to be administered manually.

Directed by Tanya Wexler and produced by Tracey Becker, Sarah Curtis and Judy Cairo, Sony Pictures Classics will release Hysteria in select theaters on May 18. Since it’s about the birth of the vibrator, it’s a natural fit for Jimmyjane—a company that has worked to redefined the context and perception of sexual wellbeing since  launching in 2004.
