AUSTIN, Texas—Jessica Jin thought it was a little absurd students at the University of Texas-Austin would be allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus beginning Aug. 1, 2016, so she decided to do something about it.
On Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, Jin organized a protest called #CocksNotGlocks, encouraging students to bring dildos to campus instead of handguns.
“The State of Texas has decided that it is not at all obnoxious to allow deadly concealed weapons in classrooms, however it DOES have strict rules about free sexual expression,” Jessica Jin, organizer of the Facebook event (#cocksnotglocks) and a UT alumna, wrote on the page. “You would receive a citation for taking a dildo to class before you would get in trouble for taking a gun to class.”
The protest, which is scheduled for Aug. 245, 2016, on the college campus, is already drawing plenty of national headlines, as well as support from the pleasure products industry.
Already, manufacturers Doc Johnson and Pipedream Products have reached out to Jin to lend support, and adult entertainment e-tail site GameLink.com is throwing its support behind #CocksNotGlocks, by offering free dildos to the first 69 students who contact the site with valid IDs. All other students will receive 20 percent off any dildo or vibrator sold by GameLink.com.
"We will ship free dildos to the first 69 University of Texas Austin students to email our Vice President Jeff Dillon at [email protected], as well as 20 percent off any dildo or vibrator sold on GameLink.com to all others. Mr. Dillon will supply a code for the 20 percent discount offer to those who contact us beyond the first 69,” Gamelink said in a letter sent to Jin. “Interested students must email a scanned or photo image of their student ID to be eligible for the offer. They must also do the same with an ID, like a driver’s license, which proves that they are 18 or older. Finally, they must include their shipping address where packages may be received.”
Pipedream Products, which manufacturers dildos of all sizes and materials, is also supporting the protest.
“Pipedream is proud to support Jessica Jin’s sex positive activism,” said Sabrina Dropkick, sex educator and social media manager for Pipedream. “As longtime allies of the Free Speech Coalition, we are very passionate about the freedom to exercise our first amendment rights and look forward to providing #CocksNotGlocks participants with our ultra-realistic American-made King Cocks."
Doc Johnson’s Marketing Manager Sunny Rodgers said the company reached out to Jin and has received a reply already. Jin said she will talk with advisors about “how nest to balance sponsorship with the message, and figuring out how to get dildos to everybody!”
“Doc Johnson supports everyone's right to own and carry a pleasure product, and look forward to sponsoring #CocksNotGlocks with our American-made products," Rodgers said.
The law awarding students on any campus in the UT system the right to carry concealed handguns passed by the Texas legislature and was signed by the Governor in June.
According to the Facebook page for #CocksNotGlocks, the purpose of the protest is to draw attention to the bizarre priorities of the State of Texas, which will allow firearms on campus and in classrooms, but has strict rules forbidding any object deemed obscene to be carried in public, like a dildo.
There are currently 8,800 people slated to attend the protest, per the Facebook page.
