Happy Universe Promotes AIDS Awareness

NEW YORK - Online retailer HappyUniverse.com has launched an initiative to raise funds and AIDS awareness through organizations such as the nonprofit, volunteer-supported charity Gay Men's Health Crisis.

Happy Universe co-founders Tommy and Joe Galan are lawyers and comedians who perform and write as members of the sketch-comedy troupe FUCT. The troupe attracted the attention of Village Voice columnist Michael Musto by making a donation to Gay Men's Health Crisis and has encouraged audience members to donate to the charity.

Happy Universe also is scheduled to participate in New York City Gay Pride Weekend events, host blogs featuring information on sexual health, sponsor charity events, and join forces with like-minded organizations.

"Joe and I plan to use our comedic talent and guerrilla marketing techniques to promote the site and raise awareness for AIDS," Tommy Galan said. "Stay tuned for campaigns in conjunction with New York City's ‘Get Some' free-condom project and through upcoming performances of the FUCT comedy troupe."
