NEWNAN, Ga. - You can buy a gun, liquor and even some drug paraphernalia items in Coweta County, Georgia, but as of Monday, you can't buy a sex toy.
In a special meeting, the Coweta County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a new obscenity ordinance prohibiting anyone from knowingly selling "any device designed or markets as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs," The Newnan Times-Herald reported.
Commissioners voted on the issue after hearing a presentation from Tennessee attorney Scott Bergthold, who is consider an expert in writing legislation to combat adult-themed business.
The newspaper reported that the new ordinance could affect not only the sale of sex toys, but also of ribbed condoms and lubricants with warming or cooling effects. At-home parties for adult novelties could also be affected.
Violators of the ordinance face up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000.
