Good Vibrations Seeks Short Films for Competition

SAN FRANCISCO - Good Vibrations will accept submissions from Bay Area residents through Sept. 10 for its second annual Amateur Erotic Film Competition. Entries should be short films with sexual or erotic themes; according to the video announcing the call for submissions, "diversity is key."

"We specifically chose to use the term ‘erotic' instead of ‘porn' to allow filmmakers from any stylistic background the chance to create and showcase films that don't necessarily focus on sex," Junior Marketing Coordinator Allison Goldstein told AVN Novelty Business magazine. "We didn't want to exclude really hot films because they may or may not feature nudity or full-on sex acts. Some of the films entered in the competition are definitely pornographic - and we love them - but leaving the competition open creates a wonderfully unique experience featuring a wide variety of perspectives."

Submissions should be between three and 10 minutes long, and reflect eroticism with serious, lighthearted or romantic themes. Films can be submitted in mini-DV, VHS or DVD formats.

No one younger than 18 may be involved in front of or behind the camera, there can be no bestiality, and films using copyrighted music must be accompanied by a release or permission form. Visit GoodVibes.com for a complete list of rules and a 2257 form that must be completed by each person appearing on camera; each entry must be accompanied by its 2257 form(s).

Awards will be given in three categories: Superior Film Making, Most Creative and Best Use of a Sex Toy. One winner in each category will receive $300 cash and a $100 Good Vibrations gift card. The winning films will be screened on Oct. 11 at the historic Castro Theatre in San Francisco; additional East Bay screenings will be announced.

Goldstein said the competition was created to give the area's fledgling filmmakers a chance to get their work on the big screen; professional filmmakers and videographers are ineligible.

"We created this competition as our way of letting the public see some really amazing films that otherwise might never be shown in a theater," she continued. "We've received entries from college students, people trying to break into the porn industry and performance artists."

The deadline for submissions is Sept. 10. Films can be submitted at a Good Vibrations retail store or mailed to Camilla at Good Vibrations' corporate office at 938 Howard St., Suite 101, San Francisco, Calif., 94103.
