SAN FRANCISCO—Good Vibrations won the Best Retail Chain award last Saturday at the 2011 AVN Awards in Las Vegas, just weeks after opening its fifth store in downtown San Francisco. This marks the first time that Good Vibrations, the original clean well-lit women-friendly sex toy store, has been honored with this award—and it coincides with the first time that AVN has bestowed an award in this category in its nearly 30-year history.
The AVN Awards, sponsored by AVN Media Network, are the most prestigious awards in the adult industry, and the annual ceremony is held each year in Las Vegas. Dubbed the "Oscars of Adult Entertainment" and designed to recognize companies and products as well as movies and performers, the AVN Awards mark the best and most notable in adult entertainment. Good Vibrations was awarded the “O” Award for Outstanding Online Retailer in 2009 and 2010 by AVN as well, but the Best Retail Chain award represents the first time that AVN has acknowledged retailers at the movie awards ceremonies.
"We are thrilled to be honored as the Best Retail Chain, especially having just opened our fifth store in downtown San Francisco near Union Square only a few weeks ago,” said Jackie Strano, chief operating officer for Good Vibrations. “We have more retail expansion plans for 2011 and to be acknowledged in our industry for our hard work and for our brand is very gratifying.”
In addition to these nominations, Good Vibrations' original founder, Joani Blank, was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame. The AVN Hall of Fame adds new members each year, honoring the legends of the adult entertainment industry. For her pioneering commitment to women's pleasure (and pleasure products), Joani, who founded Good Vibrations in 1977, receives richly deserved recognition as an adult industry visionary.
The AVN Awards are the culminating event of the annual Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas (Jan. 6-9). Good Vibrations Staff Sexologist Dr. Carol Queen joined a panel discussion, “In the Company of Women.” The AVN Awards ceremony was held on Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Hotel & Casino.
