SAN FRANCISCO - Adult novelty manufacturer, retailer, and sex educators Good Vibrations has announced a "Funky Birthday Bash" celebrating the 50th birthday of its staff sexologist and chief cultural officer, Dr. Carol Queen. "Everyone is invited," according to Good Vibes President and Chief Executive Officer Theresa Sparks, to attend the free event Saturday, July 14.
"We look forward to a wonderful celebration honoring Dr. Queen," she stated. "[Queen] has worked tirelessly for more than two decades to develop sex-positive programs and resources now used not only here in the Bay Area, but throughout the U.S. and in other nations."
The celebration is said to have a "Summer of Lust" theme, featuring 1970s disco music spun by DJ Justin Credible, surprise guest performances, and go-go girls - as well as boys - dancing. The bash, which will benefit the nonprofit Center for Sex and Culture, will also feature Good Vibrations Wheel of Pleasure, in which guests will spin the wheel for a chance to win prizes. Ten percent of sales during the event will be donated to the organization.
Dr. Queen who holds the record for the second-longest consecutive number of years with Good Vibrations and had a key role in planning its 30th anniversary shared her excitement when she stated, "If you'd told me when I was a kid I'd be having this much fun at the age of 50, I'd never had believed it. When I was in my 20's, I heard a storyteller riff on the theme ‘follow what fascinates you.' I decided to try to live my life that way, which led me right to San Francisco.
Dr. Queen also shared that she is grateful to live in a city she loves, to have the opportunity to contribute to it through work she loves, and to help support her non-profit organization of choice while she celebrates with friends and colleagues.
"As an author, educator, nonprofit founder and community leader, as a role model, executive, and friend, [Queen's] contributions have been tremendous," Sparks continued. "For us and for so many who know her and her good work, Dr. Carol Queen is truly a living legend and a treasure."
The Funky Birthday Bash will take place at the Good Vibrations Valencia Street Store, 603 Valencia St, in San Francisco, Saturday, July 14, from 7 - 10 p.m.
