Goldfrau Taps Good Vibes for U.S. Distribution

Bay Area novelty retailer Good Vibrations has announced an exclusive U.S. distribution deal with Australian ceramic manufacturer Goldfrau, maker of products touted as the most luxurious dildos in the world.

"We have been exploring a luxury product strategy for several months and feel that the Goldfrau ceramic dildos are an excellent addition to our selection of high-end toys," said Coyote Days, senior buyer for Good Vibrations.

"Isn't it amazing? There's nothing quite like it on the market," Days told AVN Adult Novelty Business magazine. "It's both beautiful and functional—a true melding of art and design."

The Goldfrau dildo is handcrafted from non-porous stoneware that has a wall thickness of 3-4 mm, has a cadmium- and lead-free glaze, and is fully vitrified (cannot absorb liquid). This unexplored sex-toy material is lightweight, yet durable.

To verify the integrity of the material, Goldfrau hired an independent engineering company specializing in industrial ceramics to assess the products' material strength. According to its website, "Results indicate that this dildo will never break under normal usage."

"Our products are designed by women, for women," said Judith Glover, founder of Goldfrau and designer of the new toy. "Call us crazy, but this is still a relatively unusual concept within this industry."

Since its product release party in July 2006, Goldfrau primarily has focused on sales in Australia. "They were looking to break into the U.S. market and were checking out women-positive, sex-positive retailers to work with," said Days. "Good Vibrations is not only retail, we're wholesale, and already have Good Vibes' exclusive lines in glass and silicone. We also have very similar goals as Goldfrau, so offering up our distribution made perfect sense—their fantastic product and our business reach is a good match.

"I'm a very visual person," she continued. "The Goldfrau dildos have a really delicate graphic quality, very minimalist yet well designed with a sleek slash of color." Once Days held one in her hands, she said, the full impact of how ceramic complements the design became apparent. "The minute I opened the leather pouch and felt how light and smooth they are, I knew they were going to be a successful item. Using the Goldfrau is a very aesthetic experience—the way it looks, feels."

"This material is underrated for adult sexual pleasure," Days told ANB. "Goldfrau took a material that's used in everyday life and [fused] it with a design for sexual pleasure." Ceramic stoneware retains heat well; simply soak it in warm or cool water to change its temperature. And, unlike bone china, it's very strong, so won't be damaged during normal use.

The Goldfrau will be available from Good Vibrations' retail outlets for $220 in the Classic size (7 7/8 inches long, 1-inch diameter), and $240 for the Large (8 inches long, 1 3/8-inch diameter). It is available in four signature colors: Miss White, Miss Black, Miss Pink, and Miss Flora, some with delicate designs along the shaft.

All Goldfrau dildos come packaged in a complimentary pouch made from certified leather, vegetable-tanned leather, or fashion-industry leather scraps—which is both stylish and environmentally conscious.

In addition to being distributed by Good Vibrations' wholesale division, all four colors and Classic and Large sizes will be available April 20 at all Good Vibrations store locations and on its website, GoodVibes.com.
