First Sex Toy Day a Roaring Success

CYBERSPACE—While others were preparing for the holidays, hundreds were preparing for some fun, thanks to SexToyDay.com.

The first ever Sex Toy Day was celebrated Nov. 4, as a way to recognize the joy of adult toys and their widespread use and acceptance. According to its organizers, the event was wildly successful, attracting enough attention and traffic to SexToyDay.com to give away 1,000 free personal vibrators in about 10 minutes.

"We are ecstatic about the huge response we received to Sex Toy Day," explained Dr. Sandor Gardos, founder of MyPleasure.com, a primary sponsor of Sex Toy Day. "We really didn't know what to expect since the event was in its first year, but the overwhelming turnout sent a clear statement that adult toys are an important part of people's sex lives. And already we are setting our sights on next year's event."

But before next year's Sex Toy Day, the organizers are hosting a second chance giveaway of a luxury adult toy kit on SexToyDay.com this month and every month leading up to the next event. On Nov. 4, SexToyDay.com received 6,000 visits every minute the contest was live. And prior to the event, nearly 10,000 people asked to receive a reminder email. Socially, the event was "liked" by more than 2,000 Facebook users. About two dozen visitors to SexToyDay.com contributed personal stories to the site, discussing their thoughts on adult toys.

One contributor wrote, "Adult toys have helped boost my self-confidence, not only in myself as a woman, but as a professional." A comment left on the event's Facebook page read, "Thank you for promoting sexual health, I am always a fan of companies that are interested in breaking down barriers in our country!"

During the giveaway, SexToyDay.com posted polls in order to learn more about people's attitudes toward adult toys. Among the results were the number of people who masturbate a few times a week (48 percent of poll takers), the percent of people who use an adult toy alone and with their partner (62 percent) and that 92 percent of poll takers believe that adult toys are a great way to spice up their sex life. Additionally, a resounding 89 percent of poll takers said they either own or would buy an adult toy as a present.

Organizers point to these responses as helpful indicators that adult toys have widespread and important use in both men and women's lives. And they are excited to see discussions about the role of adult toys become more public instead of just "pillow talk."

Sex Toy Day was sponsored by 40 companies and bloggers, including MyPleasure, Sex with Emily, My Sex Professor, Devine Toys, Wet, and Sex Smart Films. The event also attracted numerous print, radio and television media.

Sex Toy Day celebrates the opportunity to experience the joy of adult toys and introduces the fun back into people's sex lives. To promote and support the use of adult toys, the event featured a mass giveaway of 1,000 Waterproof Pocket Rocket personal vibrators. The event is embraced by many leaders in the sexual wellness and sex therapy communities and is sponsored by MyPleasure, Sex with Emily, Devine Toys and others.
