SAN FRANCISCO—The 31st annual Exotic Erotic Ball and Expo, the internationally acclaimed Celebration of Flesh, Fetish, and Fantasy, has again evidenced its longstanding commitment to promoting independent music. It is offering two prime-time, full-paying gigs exclusively to indie artists.
To be considered for the gigs, bands must apply by submitting their electronic press kit through Sonicbids at http://bit.ly/dvptKj on or before Sept. 20, 2010. All entries will be juried and rated and two winners will be chosen to play before thousands of masked, costumed, and otherwise elaborately attired fans at the 2010 Exotic Erotic Ball and Expo, Oct. 22-23, at the San Francisco Bay Area’s newest waterside venue, The Craneway Pavilion. Winners will be notified on Sept. 30, 2010.
The 2010 show marks the Ball’s fourth collaboration with Sonicbids. Previous indie bands who won gigs at the Ball were 2009 winners CR Gruve from Portland, Maine, and Super Geek League from Seattle—the latter of which were so popular, producers are bringing them back for 2010. The 2008 winners were The Burning of Rome from San Diego, Mud from San Francisco and Carnival of Sin from British Columbia, Canada; 2007 winners were Black Betty and the Bad Habits from Boston, and the Los Angeles-based Doxy and Lady Fox. Sonicbids winners performed on the same bill with legendary artists including Snoop Dogg, Peaches, Donald Glaude, the Spyderz, Tone Loc, The Impotent Sea Snakes, and others. Black Betty’s lead vocalist, Jenny Langer, called the experience, “a true highlight for us that we’ll always remember. That’s one fun and crazy crowd!”
“The Ball is very visible,” added Perry Mann, founder of the Exotic Erotic Ball. “And many bands with sexy lead singers and provocative lyrics feel they fit the show. Many of them do. The problem for us is we receive hundreds of DVDs, CDs, emails, and links. We don’t have the time or manpower to sift through them. But, I am a songwriter myself, and I have a real commitment to indie music. Our relationship with Sonicbids allows us to manage this function and show that commitment. Every submission gets heard, and it all comes to us online. I look forward to shaking hands with the 2010 winners on stage at the Ball.”
The Ball is widely considered the world’s No. 1 adult-themed party event with live headline entertainment on five stages—music, electronic, burlesque, circus, and fetish. More than its 30-year history, headline entertainment has included Joan Jett, Chris Isaak, Grace Jones, Greg Allman, George Clinton, Thomas Dolby, Everclear, plus untold numbers of celebrity guests, pop culture icons, and the world’s top burlesque, fetish, and novelty acts.
