Excitement Video Holds 'Ladies Night'

PHILADELPHIA - Adult retailer Excitement Video hosted an in-store "Ladies Night" event on April 17 in an effort to help women feel more comfortable in an adult retail environment, Manager Marie Powers told AVN Novelty Business.

"Some males weren't too happy, but the females were extremely pleased," she said. "We're trying to show women that you can come into an adult store and feel welcome. We have female employees here to answer questions and make them feel comfortable. Without men in the store, the ladies who attended felt more at ease to speak freely with one another about products."

Dion Young, Excitement Video's novelty buyer and event coordinator, agreed.

"Our female employees were actually opening products and demonstrating them for the ladies during the night," he said. "They really seemed to like the hands-on approach."

Excitement Video promoted the event on WMMR, a radio station that invited listeners to call in to win space on a party bus the store had on-site during the event.

"Fifty women who called in to the radio program received a seat on the party bus for them and a friend," Powers said. "They [each] also received a $25 gift card. We also posted bulletins and blogs on MySpace and got an additional 20 or more ladies who showed up. We had food, drinks, a guest speaker and lots of laughs."

Young encourages retailers everywhere to host similar events.

"Each event like this that we do is more and more successful," he said. "We're going to be doing a lot more events like this in the future. I would encourage anybody who has an adult establishment to take three hours out of a day, close off the store and have an event like this. It's great for repeat business."
