CHATSWORTH, Calif.—As concerns grow over what consumers are putting in and on their bodies, Earthly Body has recently completed a reformulation process to make their products phthalate-free.
Phthalates are frequently put in lotions, massage oils and personal lubricants to make help penetrate and soften the skin more easily, as well as in fragrance to make it last longer. Manufacturers aren’t required to list all the components of their fragrances, as to not give away trade secrets.
In a recent study by the Environmental Working Group, phthalates were found in 75 percent of the personal care products they tested, with concentrations as high as 2 percent. None of these products listed phthalates as an ingredient.
Earthly Body has taken measures to ensure that none of their products contain phthalates, including the products popular in the adult industry like the Water Slide personal lubricant and the edible massage candles.
“We’ve always tried to produce the safest, most natural products possible,” said Jeff Cazanov, director of product promotions. “Our goals are to make our products effective and skin safe, and to do so we require the safest fragrance ingredients. That’s why we decided to eliminate phthalates from our products.”
Earthly Body continues to be a leader in the natural skin care market, offering products that contain no petroleum, mineral oil or sulfates. The products are also drug-free and cruelty-free.
Earthly Body is a family-owned company that has been creating natural skin and hair care products since 1994. The company has three retail locations in Southern California, and boasts an international presence that includes Japan, France, Italy, Canada, Germany and Russia.
