Adult retail store Drake's Erotica Emporium will hold a grand re-opening for its completely redesigned Melrose location from noon to midnight Saturday at 7566 Melrose Ave.
Drake's, which has served the Los Angeles adult community
for more than 35 years, has overhauled its Melrose store with "an eye toward
community development, charitable outreach and a re-branding of an image now
geared toward a more inclusive demographic."
The adult-themed event will include body painting and live
entertainment, and Tory Lane, Alexis Texas, Brianna Love, Aiden Starr and Michael Manning will be on hand to
sign autographs. Manning's work will be featured in an art-gallery installation.
Sister Unity of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will host the event, which will feature performers such as Prince Poppycock, Mistress Anna Valentina, Courtney Cruz, Danny Shorago (The Fuxedos), Toy Surprise, Rebecca Gray, Discount Cruise to Hell, Satanica and 10 West. Local bands The Glowering Eyes, Red Light District and Citizen Savant will perform throughout the day.
Drake's will donate 5 percent of the event's proceeds to the Women's Care Cottage, an organization that has assisted homeless families for more than 20 years. Event planner Mandi Moss said Drake's will now serve as a drop-off location for "any donations people may want to give to this worthy organization."
"Starting Saturday, and from then on, people can donate their items at our store," she said. "They need professional clothing for women re-entering the workforce, but people can donate pretty much anything. All we ask is that everything be in good, clean and operable condition."
