LOS ANGELES, CA—Sociologist Chauntelle Anne Tibbals, Ph.D. is pleased to announce the release of her book, You Study What? One Sociologist's Journey through Sex, Society, & Adult Entertainment (Volume 1).
Each installment of the You Study What? series is based on Tibbals’ scholarly work in and around the adult industry. In each volume, “Dr. Chauntelle” shares her personal experiences, providing a window into a world that’s shrouded in mystery… but is ultimately no different from any other.
“I’ve had some fun adventures and have seen some pretty interesting things over the years,” Tibbals shared. “But a lot gets lost when you’re translating everyday observations into scholar-speak. I’m excited to share some of the more personal experiences that have informed my academic work.”
Dr. Tibbals is a sociologist specializing in gender, sexualities, work and organizations, and media and popular culture. Her research has been published in numerous scholarly journals including Sexualities, Gender Work & Organization, and Stanford Law and Policy Review. Her insights and expertise have been quoted and cited by numerous cultural and news media outlets including CNN, BloombergTV, and NBC News. She was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Southern California (USC) during 2012–2013 and curates the award-winning site, PVVOnline.com.
There are five stories in You Study What? (Volume 1): “Working the Booth,” about Tibbals’ first time at an adult industry convention, the Adult Entertainment Expo; “Looking for This Particular Movie,” about her first time in a sex shop; and “Pegging—The Oldest New Trick in the Book” about changing trends in adult content. Volume 1 also features “The Thin Line Between Real and Fake” and “Average Joes and the Monster Cock.”
Volume 1 has already received enthusiastic responses from consumers. Early comments are loving You Study What?, calling it “insightful,” “eye-opening,” and “lighthearted and fun”—“a fresh light on what we watch in the dark”!
“I couldn’t be more thrilled by the responses You Study What? has already received,” Tibbals stated. “I’ve always felt like people would be interested in this sort of perspective on the adult industry, and I’m excited to provide it!”
