LINCOLN, Neb. - A man who owns a chain of adult stores in Missouri, Illinois and Nebraska has been told he is not eligible to run for a city council seat.
John Haltom, known as "Doctor John," had filed paperwork earlier this month to run for office, but on Friday he was informed by the Lancaster County Elections Board that his 2000 felony conviction in Utah for selling an adult video to a 17-year-old during a police sting in Salt Lake City made him ineligible.
The 41-year-old, who owns two Doctor John's stores in the city, was running as a Republican, and was one of six vying for the open seat.
