TEMPE, Ariz. – While it initially looked like a smash-and-grab, it turned out to be just a smash. The front entrance of Lingerie Superstore was decimated when, police say, the perpetrators drove a car through it.
"Well, I just feel angry. I mean, honestly, it just seems so pointless," says owner Debbie Ahearn. "They just grabbed a couple pieces of lingerie that happened to be hanging in the front so... I don't think they were after the merchandise, I don't think they were after money. They didn't take any money."
Ahearn believes the suspects just wanted to do some damage and did not actually intend to burglarize the store.
Police in Tempe say this incident is similar to one that occurred on Nov. 27, when suspects smashed a car through the doors of a gun shop but absconded with only a couple of weapons.
Although she is still able to open the store (and plans to do so), Ahearn anticipates thousands of dollars in damage, since the roller shutter and the door were both destroyed.
Anyone with information about either of the smash-and-grab incidents is asked to contact Tempe police.
