CHINO, Calif. - California Exotic Novelties was invited to contribute a major exhibit at the new Erotic Heritage Museum, a non-profit educational and cultural organization in Las Vegas.
"We're proud to be a part of this breakthrough exhibit," says Susan Colvin, president and founder of California Exotic Novelties (CEN). "Since 1994, we've been making erotic history with our innovative adult toys. We're delighted that our pioneering efforts have been recognized by this boldly unique museum."
Colvin broke the "boys' club monopoly" when she created CEN in 1994 as a woman-founded, woman-directed company in the adult toy world. Employing key women executives-with women's perspectives on pleasure-they began producing products that reflected the needs and desires of today's modern woman and couples.
"Susan's insight and determination triggered a major turning point in merchandising for the sexual revolution," says Al Bloom, director of marketing. "She was the first to recognize that some 60 percent of all adult toys are bought by women! With a women's perspective Susan realized that sexuality is more than just the sum of its parts. It's a complex mix of sensuality, emotional connection and fantasy.
The 24,000 sq. ft. Erotic Heritage Museum (EHM), which opened in early August, was inspired by Harry Mohney and Ted McIlvenna. EHM exhibits commemorate key moments in American erotica history. Committed to the idea that intimate pleasure is a natural, positive human function, EHM displays materials that depict the history, and embody the spirit of, the sexual revolution.
