SAN FRANCISCO - COLT Man Mitch Branson has released his first full-length music CD, "Groove Compass," which mixes sensual electronic dance music and influences from a variety of genres.
Branson named Deep Forrest, Moby and Madonna as influences on his work, and said he wanted to create a sensual mix of sounds from around the globe.
The idea for the project came to the adult-film star during a promotional tour for COLT Studio Group.
"I came up with the idea to do my own music while doing public appearances throughout the year for COLT," he told AVN Novelty Business. "I do autograph signings, and part of the promotional appearance is a striptease show. I decided I wanted to create my own music to dance to."
For the past 10 years, Branson produced music as a hobby, using a four-track mixer and synthesizer. He said taking a digital-audio course at a local college opened new doors for him.
"I've always done music for fun, using equipment from Radio Shack or Guitar Center," he said. "In class, I was introduced to new software that gave me the opportunity to be much more creative, as opposed to physically editing a tape with a synth."
Branson enlisted Matt Rooney, an associate of one of his childhood friends, to design the cover art for the CD.
"I spoke with Matt about the project, and he seemed excited," he said. "He listened to the music, and I gave him the album name and track listings, so he could get a feel for it. After about a month, he came back with what he envisioned, and I am really happy with it."
Branson can be seen displaying his other talents as well in COLT's latest blockbuster release HAWAII.
