MINNEAPOLIS - The Coalition Against Toxic Toys (CATT) is offering certifications to adult novelty manufacturers, distributors and retailers to license their CATT Seal of Approval in an effort to raise funds for research and testing of sex toys.
The Coalition was co-founded by Jessica Giordani and Jennifer Pritchett, who own the adult brick and mortar store The Smitten Kitten. The pair has spent more than two years researching sex toy safety in depth, paying for the lab work out of their own pockets.
According to the Coalition, any sex toy that contains any of the chemicals found on California Prop 65's list of chemicals known to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm is considered to be toxic. Prop 65 is the Safe Water and Drinking Act of 1986, which requires the Governor to revise and republish a list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm at least once per year.
The Board of Directors and staffers of the Coalition work on a volunteer basis, and any fees or and dues collected are said to be used strictly for further sex toy testing and lab research.
Companies interested in becoming certified members of the Coalition will have access to license and utilize the official CATT Seal of Approval on all product packaging, advertising and marketing materials. Additionally, they will have Administrative support from CATT staffers in public relations and marketing matters including press release support and media inquiry referrals.
Companies who become certified CATT members will be required to engage in toxic sex toy awareness and education activities such as: employee education programs regarding sex toy awareness.
CATT's goals are to empower sex toy consumers to make informed purchasing decisions and to support sex toy retailers, distributors, and manufacturers as they actively work to minimize their dependency on hazardous sex toys.
