OLATHE, Kan. - One might raise an eyebrow hearing the words "adult novelty" and "child" in the same sentence, but online retailer Sinless Touch's philanthropic Adopt A Child program is about doing the right thing by providing care and education to "adopted" children. At press time, three children had been sponsored.
The program works as follows: At the online check out, customers can opt to round up their purchases and donate the "spare change" to the charitable cause of early childhood education in developing nations. The donation will simply be added to their bill. The sponsored children will be provided basic care and education. The company will maintain a profile of each child and follow its life so those who participate can see how their contributions help.
"The Adopt A Child Charity Program is our commitment to society. We've always known that a sustainable business needs the support of healthy communities and a high quality environment. We aim to be the most trusted retailer wherever we trade by demonstrating a clear sense of social responsibility," said Jessica Blake, Sinless Touch's vice president of corporate communications.
Jerome Daniels, communications director of Sinless Touch, explained more about the background of the program to AVN Novelty Business. "The owners took on the program to empower children around the world. They feel the lack of education is the root of many problems. This is a long term commitment and project to make the world better," he said.
In response to the question of this perhaps controversial alliance, Daniels said, "We know we're doing the right thing."
