Bruno Gmünder Releases Gone to the Movies

BERLIN - In August, Bruno Gmünder will release Gone to the Movies, a high-quality coffee table book featuring cartoon interpretations of classic movie posters as envisioned by Portuguese artist HvH.

HvH is known for signature artwork that has complimented erotic fiction stories in MEN and Freshmen magazine from Specialty Publications as well as comic books from Class Comics.

The hardcover Gone to the Movies book features 64 full-color pages of famous movie posters, playfully tweaking the history of cinema for the gay market, according to Bruno Gmünder PR manager Helmuth Täuber.

"His work is sometimes ironic and disrespectful, occasionally affectionate and amusing, and in the end is simply [a] magnificent homage to cinema," he said. "There's plenty to discover in this book, even after looking through it a second time. HvH's love of detail testifies to an artist who pours his heart and soul into his works."

Gone to the Movies is described as being filled with angular features and "plenty of heavy tools," with a pleasant mix of some more graphic and some more vivid images.

HvH told AVN Novelty Business the book stemmed from his childhood fascination with cinema.

"I've been a movie buff ever since I first sat in a theatre way, way back in my childhood," he said. "When I began talking with Bruno Gmünder, we went over a lot of different ideas until we thankfully settled on this one: doing a book with gay versions of gay movie posters. In this project, I was able to bring together most of the things I love: movies, men, and illustration, an homage to all!"

HvH told ANB the book is a celebration of cinema and its history from classic films to science fiction to comedy.
