Blush Novelties Braced for Recession

NEW YORK - Even before the current global recession became a generally acknowledged reality, sex-toy manufacturer Blush Novelties hit on a formula for staying afloat in tough economic times

Founded in 2007, the company always has maintained a "lean operation," according to national sales manager Eric Lee.

"We are kind of an unconventional company," Lee told AVN Novelty Business. "We work on less than half the margins of our competitors. We have a great staff that works hard and efficiently. We do not spend too much on marketing. All of that allows us to offer lower prices while keeping quality on par with the other manufacturers

"Basically, we run a lean operation, and we currently sell only direct [to consumers and retailers] in the U.S.," he said. "Our customers regard us a well-kept secret."

Blush also takes pride in its customer service.

"Questions get answered fast," Lee said. "Problems get resolved quickly. We provide fast shipping. We have a knowledgeable staff, and we stand behind our products."

Part of "standing behind products" is the company's lifetime warranty on items in the Play With Me line.

"When a customer returns an item to us, we replace it with a new item for a small shipping and handling fee," Lee said.

Recent additions to the Play With Me line include the Flower Power Micro Bullet, the Velvet G-Spot Mini Vibe, the Pleasure Wand, Naughty Dual Bullets and One Touch Bullets mini-vibes. None of the items retails for more than $8.75.

"Our items are tried-and-true sellers: basic designs that sell well and will continue to do so for a long time," he told ANB. "From what I see, a store's toy inventory is composed of the latest items, luxury items and items that are called ‘filler': items used to fill wall space. These items are the bread and butter of the business. Our products fit this category well.

"Our main selling point is that our products will allow you to both earn a slightly higher margin as well as offering to your customers a better price," he added. "It's a win-win situation."
