Benwa Ready To Protect Their Balls

CLEVELAND, Ohio—The owners of Benwa, the sole company that manufactures true Benwa Balls, are ready to make one thing clear: Imitators and those trying to make a profit from the brand are in their sights.

David Gordon, chief operating officer for Benwa, said the company has contracted with a legal team to begin sending out cease and desist letters to manufacturers and websites trying to capitalize on the Benwa name. Benwa, which loosely translates to vaginal exercise area, was founded in 1942, and brought to the U.S. in the 1960s.

“The name and rights to it were given to the company at that time,” he said, noting that companies using the term Benwa, or Benwa Balls, are using the trademarked name illegally.

Benwa Balls have a medical background, in that they are often used to improve the vaginal muscles by inserting them and clenching to hold them there. The balls are gold anodized and measure about the same size as a marble.

“This is not just a product we are trying to protect, but an entire brand,” Gordon said. “We don’t want cheap copies of the Benwa Balls out there with the name, or websites trying to make money by using the Benwa name.”
