NEW YORK - Adult-novelty retailer Babeland recently held a wine tasting with the carnal twist of a sex-toy party.
The Erotic Wine Tasting Soiree, hosted by Perfect Palate, featured some 60 vintages culled from the New York wine country, as well as truffles, exotic cheeses and chocolate-dipped fruit. The 60 participants, who each paid $40 for admission, also were treated to erotic poetry readings and information on Babeland's wares.
"Wine and sexuality have one thing in common," Perfect Palate event manager Hollye Chanelle told Decanter magazine. "People indulge in both, often don't have a clue what it's about, but like to appear as though they do. It is a learning experience."
In terms of age, race, sexual orientation and wine experience, the crowd represented a wide range.
"The novice feels welcomed by the trendy atmosphere and the down-to-earth demeanor of our sexy sommeliers," Chanelle said, "and seasoned oenophiles are intrigued by the unique angles by which we analyze, decipher and present our wines."
Babeland holds other wine-related events, such as bachelorette wine-tasting parties and a ladies-only kinky wine-tasting party, where participants learn striptease performance, lap dancing and sexy walking - all while sampling a selection of red, white and sparkling wines.
Babeland will hold more wine-and-sex-related parties during the holiday season at its locations in New York and Los Angeles.
