HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – The Antebellum Gallery will present The Orphan, the first book from Los Angeles poet Anari this Saturday, Aug. 30 at a wine and cheese reception in Los Angeles.
“Anari’s poetry combines isolation and anger, fused with eroticism that is unique to the Los Angeles gay, black male experience,” said Curator Rick Castro. “Antebellum is proud to present this original voice for the first time. Anari will be heard from a great deal in the future.”
Castro said Anari will also be holding a book signing session in celebration of his publishing debut. Sex, gender and irony will be explored with special guest performances by artist Ian Mackinnon and drag performer Jazzmun.
Castro's work has been published in exhibitions and institutions worldwide and archived at the UCLA library and the Leather Museum in Chicago. He is an independent curator, filmmaker and photographer.
Admission to the gallery is $5 and will be held from 7-9 p.m. at 1643 N. Las Palmas Ave. For more information, call 323-856-0667, visit antebellum.us.ms or email at [email protected].
