Antebellum Hosts Fetish Film Night in Hollywood Tonight

HOLLYWOOD - Antebellum Gallery and the American Cinematheque presents Fetish Film Night in Hollywood's Spielberg Theater at the Egyptian at 7:30 tonight.

The evening, for mature audiences, includes an inauguration screening of Maitresse, a love story about the mysteries of love. The screening will be followed by an informal discussion and debate with the audience.

"Please join us for the inaugural screening of Fetish Film Night," said host Rick Castro, who explores the world of fetish and fringes of culture. "Maitresse is the perfect film to kick off our monthly series. The film originally provoked controversy in the United Kingdom and the United States because of its graphic depictions of sado-masochistic behavior ... What the general public doesn't understand is that everything can be fetishized, and probably has been."

The 112-minute film, produced in 1976 by Janus Films, examines the line between fantasy and reality, decadence and deprivation and the distance one will go for love. The film originally provoked controversy because of its graphic depiction of sadomasochistic behavior and now has an NC-17 rating. The costumes were designed by Karl Lagerfield, one of the most successful couturiers, both then and now. It is claimed that Parisian masochists didn't merely volunteer for treatment in the dungeon scenes, but actually paid for the privilege.

This is a once-monthly series at the Spielberg Theatre hosted by Castro of Antebellum Gallery. All screenings for this series will have fetish as the main theme and subject matter. Castro is an independent curator, filmmaker and photographer working and living in Los Angeles.

The Spielberg Theater at the Egyptian is located at 6712 Hollywood Blvd. The show costs $7 for members and $10 for the general public. For further information call (323) 466-3456.
