HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - The Antebellum Gallery will present Splatter, an exhibit featuring the spooks and kinks of murder, monsters, mayhem, and gore on Halloween eve.
"Antebellum continues its assault on the mundane with Splatter, the first art exhibition to explore the passions and obsessions of images of chaos, bloodlust, and things that go bump in the night," said curator Rick Castro, who said he has assembled some of the grizzliest international artists.
Kevin Johnson will be one of 15 artists featured at the 7 to 10 p.m. show.
"I've been to just about every opening at Antebellum for the last year or so. I was thrilled when Rick accepted three of my photographs (‘Her Appetite,' ‘Until Death...,' and ‘Do Us Part)," Johnson told ANB..
Johnson's Splatter exhibit photographs "tell the story of a young woman who discovers her lover has been unfaithful and seduces him with a romantic dinner. After they have sex, she stabs him to death with the kitchen knife," described Johnson. "It's going to be an amazing night!"
Johnson will be joined by Coral Armour and her hand-made dolls, Mike Caruso with his "I'da Killed For That Guy" painting along with several other showcases.
Caruso's gruesome piece is a "painting of a guy that just skull fucked a decapitated head and tossed it onto Andy Warhol's desk," he said. "Why Andy Warhol? Because he seemed like someone who would've watched something like that."
Citizen Savant, Botoxic and Kevin Delude will headline the pre-Halloween performances.
"When we first learned about Antebellum, the spirit of the event was extraordinarily possessive," said Tracy Hayden, lead singer of Citizen Savant. "The idea of mixing music and visual art has been really inspiring for us. This will be our first stage (costume) show and we're incredibly excited to bring a more theatric element to our performance."
Castro said the entrance for the gallery will be $10 and $5 for attendees who come in costume, where a contest for prizes will be later held. A private press preview will be available from 6-7 p.m. The exhibit will run through Nov. 30.
