Adult Shops in Saipan Could See Relocation

SAIPAN - The island of Saipan, part of a chain of 15 islands in the Northern Marianas, is considering establishing an "adult business" zone to clean up the United States Commonwealth's tourist districts, the Saipan Tribune reported, after finding that propagation of adult businesses is one of the biggest problems for the public.

The CNMI Zoning Board issued a preliminary approval last week to a series of proposed changes that would force adult book and novelty stores, strip clubs, and massage parlors to relocate to the special zone on Saipan's Middle Road within one year.

Zoning administrator Steve Tilley said the proposal will be published next month and could be adopted as early as August.
