LOS ANGELES—An auto mechanic in Fort Wayne, Indiana, who was in line to become the first woman promoted to “master technician” at the Honda dealership where she worked is now out of a job simply because she appears on an OnlyFans account in her off hours, according to a report by BuzzFeed News.
The 24-year-old mechanic knonw online as Ms. Red was reportedly fired in February, but she revealed the incident on her Twitter account only last week.
“Really a shame they had to fire me for having my only fans page, cuz I got down at my dealership,” she wrote on Twitter, while attaching a video of herself replacing a car’s air conditioning system.
“Some co-workers followed me,” she wrote in a separate Twitter post, saying that the dealership management “deemed me a ‘distraction’ and because I post ONLY ON MY ONLY FANS PAGE, naughty pics in my uniform, they were mad, I even blurred out my uni colors n everything but they didn't care.”
According to the BuzzFeed report, Ms. Red's OnlyFans account came to her bosses’ attention only because her male colleagues accessed and viewed her videos at work.
“If the guys just would’ve watched their porn at home, none of this would’ve happened,” she told BuzzFeed. “But instead of looking at it like, ‘Hey, the guys are kind of creepy,’ it’s, ‘Oh well, you’re the girl that brought this to their attention, and you’re responsible.'”
The dealership’s human resources manager denied to BuzzFeed that the OnlyFans account led to the mechanic's firing, saying only that she had violated “company policy,” and adding that she was highly regarded as a mechanic by the dealership.
But the site obtained audio recordings of what it said were meetings between the mechanic and her bosses — recordings in which the dealership managers openly discuss her OnlyFans account, saying that it could damage the reputation of the business.
One manager on the audio appears to say that her account could “encourage” male coworkers to sexually harass her.
According to the BuzzFeed report, a male employee of the dealership had appeared on OnlyFans, in a video posted by his girlfriend, but was neither fired nor even reprimanded by management, though his appearance in the video was widely known inside the business.
OnlyFans and other, similar sites have seen a surge in new accounts since the advent of lockdowns during the coronavirus pandemic. Ms. Red told BuzzFeed that she now makes more income from her OnlyFans account than she did from her work as a mechanic.
