Southern Ill. Church Group Wages Anti-Porn Campaign

CARTERVILLE, Ill. — A church-based group called Citizens Against Pornography is going door-to-door in southern Illinois asking retailers to remove X-rated materials from their shelves, according to local NBC affiliate WPSD-6.

Organized by the Community of Faith Church and pastor Todd Grenier, the group views pornography as a "silent destructive addiction" that "distorts true love between a husband and wife."

Of the 14 businesses Citizens Against Pornography has found selling X-rated materials, only three have agreed to remove them. Those who refuse are presented with a petition signed by hundreds saying they will not patronize a store carrying such materials.

The group plans a full-page ad in the Southern Illinoisan revealing all the businesses that were found selling pornography, and whether or not they chose to remove it.

One Citizens Against Pornography activist, Kit Williams, said, "We can't remove pornography from the world, but we can make a dent in southern Illinois."
