Oklahoma Lawmaker Introduces Bill Proposing Ban on Porn

OKLAHOMA CITY—A religious conservative lawmaker in the U.S. state of Oklahoma has introduced a bill proposing a ban on pornography.

State Sen. Dusty Deevers, a Southern Baptist preacher, proposed Senate Bill 1976 to prohibit the legal consumption, distribution, and production of adult entertainment content within state boundaries. Adult content is otherwise legally protected speech.

There is little chance of the Deevers bill passing, but it isn't that far-fetched given how extreme certain anti-porn proposals have been in recent months. Deevers intends to characterize adult content on a legal standard that is similar to child sexual abuse materials.

Any violations of the bill would be punishable with a misdemeanor or felony charge.

Deevers campaigned to end pornography and what he characterizes as "LGBTQ+ propaganda," Jezebel reports.
