New Poll: Stormy Daniels Is More Believable Than Donald Trump

A new poll shows that Americans find Stormy Daniels more believable than Donald Trump—though almost one-third say that they don’t find either Trump or Daniels to be believable, according a report on the poll by People Magazine.

As AVN.com has been covering, Daniels has been engaged in a high-legal battle with Trump and his former lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen since March, filing three lawsuits against one or both of them. The suits all stem from a $130,000 hush money payment made to Daniels via Cohen over a sexual encounter that Daniels says she had with Trump in 2006.

The poll, conducted by the public opinion research firm YouGov for The Economist magazine, did not ask respondents specifically about the sexual episode between Trump and Daniels.

However, in answer to the question, “Who do you believe more?” 34 percent said Daniels, while just 30 percent said that they believed Trump more. And while six percent found both Trump and Daniels equally believable, 30 percent, the same percentage who found Trump trustworthy, dismissed both of them as not believable.

Breaking the responses down by demographic groups, the new poll found that by a slight margin, women are less likely to believe the woman in this instance. In fact, men are more likely than women to believe Daniels, with 36 percent of men compared to 32 percent of women saying that they will take Daniels’ word over Trump’s.

At the same time, women were also less likely to trust Trump. Just 28 percent said that they find him more believable than Daniels, while 32 percent of men favored Trump in the “trust” department.

In perhaps the least surprising breakdown in the YouGov poll, 69 percent of Americans who describe themselves as “conservative” found Trump more trustworthy than the AVN Hall of Famer—compared to a mere 26 percent of “liberal” and “moderate” Americans combined. As might be expected, only four percent of self-decsribed “liberals” found Trump more trustworthy than Daniels.

Of all ethnic groups in the poll, black Americans leaned most heavily toward Daniels and against Trump. A full 50 percent said that they believed Daniels while a mere six percent favored Trump’s trustworthiness. Whites on the other hand gave the edge to Trump, 38 percent to 31 in terms of believability.

Those results were consistent with exit polls coming out of the 2016 election, which showed Trump losing the black vote to Hillary Clinton by an overwhelming 89 percent to just eight percent. But white voters gave the nod to Trump, who won 57 percent of the white vote, while Clinton took just 37 percent of whites.

In the election, voters aged 65 and over favored Trump by a 52-45 margin, and that result is reflected in the Trump vs. Daniels “believability” poll as well. In the poll, Americans who are at least 65 years old find Trump more believable than Daniels by a 50-30 margin.
