AMSTERDAM, Netherlands―Lawmakers have asked the Dutch national government to investigate allegations of abuse in the local pornography industry, reports wire service Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau (ANP) via the English language news outlet NL Times.
ANP reports that the Cabinet will initiate an investigation into industry abuse allegations after a group of lawmakers in the Tweede Kamer officially requested it.
The Tweede Kamer, or the House of Representatives, is the lower the house of Dutch Parliament.
Heeding this request, Dutch Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel directed the Research and Data Centre agency to investigate claims of abuse. This is to be the second investigation in the Dutch adult industry. According to ANP, the minister's agency in 2023 probed the industry but found no specific cases of abuse.
However, recent high-profile journalism exposés revealing alleged criminal activity have prompted the request for another, more intensive investigation. This new call also comes as the new national government is angling to raise the legal age for sex work to 21.
